Self-directed robotics build for controls, motion, and mechanical systems.
I built a 6-degree-of-freedom robotic arm as a self-directed learning project to understand robotics beyond theory. The project required sourcing hundreds of components, assembling the mechanical system, working through 3D printing constraints, and learning how motors, gearing, encoders, and control systems come together in a physical robot.
Although the mechanical design was based on an existing open design, the build taught me how real systems fail, how material choices affect strength and print quality, and how open-loop and closed-loop motion systems differ in practice. It became one of my most valuable hands-on engineering projects because it forced me to connect CAD, motors, electronics, controls, and debugging into one system.
